Madison Hoerbelt

Madison Hoerbelt, mezzo-soprano, is a Batavia, New York native and has just finished up her first year in the Maryland Opera Studio studying under renowned bass-baritone, Kevin Short. At University of Maryland, Madison has performed in the world premiere of Ashi Day’s The Fishwife (Socialite), Così fan tutte, Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor (Frau Reich cover), and will be portraying the roles of Ramiro (La finta giardiniera) and Brittomara (If I Were You) in this season’s productions.

A recent graduate of the voice performance program at Ithaca College under mezzo-soprano Dawn Pierce, Madison began her opera career in the Ithaca area, starring in Dido and Aeneas (Second Witch/Second Shepherdess), Die Zauberflöte (Dritte Dame), and L’Enfant et les Sortilèges (L’Enfant). Madison was a Young Artist with Opera Ithaca for two years and performed in Le Nozze di Figaro (Marcellina Cover, Chorus), Nabucco (Fenena Cover, Chorus), Proving Up/Highway 1, USA (Taller Cover, Chorus), and Orpheus in the Underworld (Public Opinion). Madison has been a District Competitor in the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition for the past three seasons, and won Encouragement Awards in the past two seasons in the Buffalo-Toronto and Maryland Districts.

Madison is also an accomplished ensemble singer, with recent performances at Carnegie Hall with the Dorothy Cotton Jubilee Singers and the Fisk Jubilee Singers and at The Kennedy Center with the University of Maryland Concert Choir.
